editing_knifeWell, folks, I’ve got some fantastic news. Starting sometime in September I’ll be officially on staff at Evil Jester Press as an editor. A big thanks to Pete Giglio (my new boss), Charles Day (the publishing house owner) and, of course, to the Mrs. – Hollie (who taught me how to edit with the aid of a blood-red pen and swing of “Mister Stabby.”

HS_logo_typewriter1So I’m pounding away at the keys last week and stop for the weekend.  What scene to I end on?  Why a psychotic flock of birds bombing the side of a car, of course.

Hmm, could the be a statement about the scene itself?

typewriter-hfsArgh! My writers group is killing me. I’ve been pounding away at a short story and since about the 5,000 word mark I’ve been saying it’s too big – that this is a novel. No, they tell me, just get the story out. Now here I am past the 9,000 word mark and have to go back, pad the beginning with a few thousand words before I can continue.

It’s a novel. See, I knew it.
